I’d like to make a suggestion for a vacation destination where you can find a great deal of variety in the type of local attractions offered.  Everybody has different goals for their summer travel.  Some of us want to visit Disneyland and some just want to relax on the beach.  Others love to see historical sites and still others love to play golf.

Summer California actually offers activities in all of these categories.  There are many golf courses between the Pacific Ocean and Palm Desert.  And, of course, you’ll find plenty of beach action for sun worshipping.

Another obvious destination is the Disneyland Resort, which includes Downtown Disney and Disney’s California Adventure (by the way, Disney is spending like a billion dollars on a major renovation of California Adventure over the next several years).

If you haven’t been to Anaheim in several years, you’ll be amazed at the changes.  California Adventure exhibits the diversity of California culture, from citrus orchards to downtown Los Angeles to the northern California Wine Country.  You will observe an international blend of cultures in the visitors at the parks and at Downtown Disney.  It is a great place for people watching—a veritable cultural melting pot.

Speaking of a cultural melting pot, Southern California is a concoction of people and cultures from around the world.  There is a particularly strong presence from Pacific Rim countries, but Europe, Asia and Africa are likewise well represented (not so many folks from Antarctica).

You’ll find quite a number of ethnic communities scattered throughout Southern California, and worth a visit in your summer travel activities.  The first community that comes to mind is Chinatown, just north of the Los Angeles central business district.  Just to the east of downtown is Little Tokyo.  Koreatown lies on the west side of the 110 Freeway.

Take time out of your schedule to drive down to Orange County to visit downtown Santa Ana, portions of which will remind you of a medium-sized city in Mexico.  Nearby Little Saigon offers shopping and dining with a Vietnamese and Southeast Asia influence.  There are no-doubt many other ethnic area in the Southern California melting pot.

Often featured in the media as the seat of government of the European Union (EU), Brussels is much more than a city of bureaucrats. It is a meeting point all the diverse cultures in Europe, and exudes a unique multicultural energy.

Brussels is not only the heart of the EU. The Belgian capital is a lively and beautiful city in its own right, a town rich in history and full of places to see. Designated the cultural capital of Europe in 2000, Brussels is no mere town of boring bureaucrats. It has its own tale to tell.

A stronghold in the middle of a river.

The name Brussels (Bruocsella) is first written about in 966. It means “chapel in a swamp”, and likely refers to its position on the banks of the Senne River. The settlement itself had probably been founded between three and four hundred years previously. The earliest fortification on Brussels Island dates back to around the end of the 10th century.

The story of Grand Place (in French, or Grote Markt in Dutch), the town square located at the middle of Brussels, leads us on a journey through the city’s history. Grand Place was created as a market and business square, but soon attracted the trade guilds and city administrators.

They erected magnificent guildhalls and government buildings as proof of their power and affluence, Brussels became one of Europe’s most important trading and financial centres during the High Middle Ages and would remain so until 1695, when French cannons bombed the city for three days, levelling Grand Place and reducing much of the city to rocks and ashes. It was rebuilt fairly quickly, and the guildhalls that currently stand on Grand Place bear witness to the city’s revival.

Grand Place remains a favourite meeting place for residents and tourists alike. Many of its countless restaurants, cafes and taverns are open around the clock.

The Hotel de Ville (Brussels city hall), completed in 1450, is an architectural crown even among the grandiose guildhalls and buildings around it. Its facade was one of the few structures to survive the French bombardment of 1695. With its 96-metre-tall tower topped by a gilded statue of St. Michael and the dragon, the Hotel de Ville is Brussels’ most recognisable landmark, visible from every part of the historic old town.

Most visitors to Brussels consider the statue called Manneken Pis (literally, “the boy peeing”) at the corner of the Rue de l’Etuve and Rue des Grands Charmes to be the emblem of Brussels. Just who the little boy in this work by sculptor Heironimus Dusquesnoy is supposed to be remains an unsolved mystery. In any case, the cheeky lad is certainly one of the city’s main tourist attractions. Meanwhile, his girl version, the Jeanneken Pis, can be discovered at the end of a cul-de-sac called Impasse de la Fidelite near La Grand Place. The habitants of [the city|Brussels} have always been in favour of equal rights, and if that meant commissioning a statue of a similarly cheeky little girl, so be it. The statue was dedicated in 1987.

The giant molecule.

The 102-metre-high Atomium is another symbol of Brussels. It began its existence as an exhibition hall built for the 1958 Worlds Fair. It represents a crystalline iron molecule, magnified 165 thousand million times. The tubes connecting the nine atomic particles are actually conduits containing escalators and walkways.

Due to its use of futuristic materials and interesting design, it has long been considered both an architectural icon and an impressive piece of civic monumental sculpture.

Inside, the Atomium still houses the occasional exhibition on topics related to nuclear technology, aeronautics, astronomy and meteorology. Inside the uppermost sphere is a restaurant that affords a beautiful view of the entire city, weather permitting.

A great way for website owners to categorize their articles or posts or any information related to specific areas or states is to have a clickable map on your web site instead of a dull list of links on your page.

I use the brilliant JQuery plugin MapHilight to create excellent hover over effects for my county and state maps of the world. It has revitalized interest in using such a technique to present clickable maps at your website or blog.

Creating a perfect hover over effect for any image map is an ordeal and plotting coordinates to make this effect is even more time consuming but very worthwhile as you can see in my demo clickable map of the Germany. If you dont pay attention to detail the effect is lost and it wont look good. I have plotted perfect coordinates for many county and state maps, to see the effect checkout my latest creation a clickable map of France.

OK so we have all the correct coordinates plotted to produce a great hover over effect, so now we need to have a nice map design for the map in question. This is also a tedious job for a webmaster to create and trace county borders…that’s why I have created layered photoshop images with all the state borders traced with the pen tool 1 pixel in black on a white background.

Now there’s no need to create a perfect clickable map from scratch, no need to pay through your nose to a webmaster to do this for you. Insanity, it is a general, popular and legal term defining behaviour influenced by mental instability. In modern usage, it is most commonly encountered as an informal, unscientific term, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense .

Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I like to look at it as banging your head against a wall and expecting to make money for it. Doesn’t usually work too well. There is apparently quite the debate amongst bloggers as to whether this was originally said by Benjamin Franklin, or Einstein, or someone else. Either way, its true.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is just not very smart any way you slice it.The same thing applies to any business. The businesses that break the mold and do something new succeed. Those that continue with the status quo eventually are shown the Chapter 11 door. Horse carriage makers used to think that the whole automobile fad was just a phase that would pass.

Essential oils are concentrated liquid compounds which hold the aromatic scents from plants. They come from plants, flowers, bark and the skins of fruits such as orange or lemon. Essential oils are essential in that they carry the essence or the most important part of the plant. In other words, they have the essential smell of the source plant from which they came.

Essential oils are normally extracted through a simple distillation process. The plant, flower, bark, or whatever source material is preferred, is placed into a flask over heated water. As the water is heated the steam passes over the source material causing them to become a volatile gas. The gas then flows through a coil to a receiving flask, where once it cools, it condenses to a liquid form. This resultant liquid form is the essence.

A lot of people are under the impression that once genital warts have disappeared, they cease to be contagious. But what is it about contagious genital warts?  Although it may be reality that genital warts are not as contagious as before, they can still be passed on to somebody else.  When you see no visible warts, it doesn’t mean that HPV, the human papilloma virus and the cause of genital warts, is gone.  It could simply be a case that the HPV could be in what we call a remission period.  It could make a return at any particular time.

Incubation periods of the genital warts virus can be anything from two to nine months, which only exasibates the contagiousness problem.  This means you could be infected for more than half a year with genital warts and not know it.  Until the first warts appear, there’s no way of knowing that you need medication or that you are putting potential partners at risk.

As I watch my friends look for horses for sale horses for sale, the same theme keeps repeating itself over and over—suitability. We’ve all seen it; the wrong horse for the job. I see people buying horses that are not suitable because of conformation, age, previous work, movement or incompatibility with the rider, among other reasons. Most common seems to be the young horse buy—the four-year-old horse for the child or someone who just intends to ride on the trails.

Sure, you can find a nice quiet four-year-old, but, really, what are the chances he’ll be a trustworthy mount for a weak inexperienced amateur or the older recreational trail rider? Another wrong horse scenario involves conformation. One friend was looking at horse sales that were billed as “dressage or hunter” prospects. (Frankly, I don’t see how a horse could be both except if you intend to ride just the lower levels of dressage, but that’s just my feeling.) She was shopping for a dressage horse and came back with a trial horse who seemed pleasant enough in personality, but he was a big draft cross type, maybe Irish draught.

“I dunno…,” I mussed, taking in his big, draft body, huge legs, and clunky feet. When he cantered, he sounded like a medieval war horse. “I’m no expert, but he looks more like he’d be real happy as a field hunter.” “Really? They said he’d probably go to fourth level, maybe higher,” she said. “I thought you said you wanted something small enough so that you could mount it from the ground in case you got thrown?” I wondered aloud, figuring he was over 17 hands. She didn’t answer. She was shorter than me, and I knew I’d have to vault off the side of the arena to get on this monster. And it’s not like she sticks like glue either; she was off her previous horse more often than not. Needless to say, her instructor did not feel he’d make an upper level dressage horse, and he went back before his trial week was up.

Maybe I’m not one to comment. I’ve never sold my horses. I’ve loved them for what they could do. I don’t really know what it’s like to go horse shopping with the intent on finding a horse for a particular job. In a recent lesson with my dressage trainer, we began to push Lady’s training a little further, encouraging her to carry herself in a more advanced frame. Because we’re going slowly and carefully, she’s picking up the work quickly and agreeably (that is, when she isn’t distressed by squealing pigs.) I am well aware that she is not built to move through the upper levels of dressage, but that’s okay. She doesn’t like jumping and she’s not terribly bold without a lot of encouragement. But she’s a nicely forward, pretty mover for an ex-racehorse, with a lovely head and neck. I’m happy to work with what she’s willing to give while keeping her sound and sane.

My riding aspirations revolve around what my horse is capable of doing—her suitability for the task. I will find the right job for her so that she can be the right horse. Just make sure if you are looking at a horse sale, that you look for the right reasons and the right horse. With that said, I hope you find what you are looking for and happy trails!
