Overtime, even the most durable rugs show signs of aging. Obviously this is like rug pads. When it comes down to it, the rug pad that is used is just as important as what you see on the surface. This is because the bottom of your rug is crushed against the hard floor.

Rug pads provide extra cushioning. If you have a closed cell pad, the dirt is held and cushioned – it’s not constantly ground against the hard floor. But has little, or nothing, to do with area rug pads usually. To avoid this, make sure that the proper rug pad is used.

Rug pads protect the carpet underneath. Speaking of dirt, a rug pad can also help keep your rug clean. This is similar to Oriental rug pads frequently. You do not want to find yourself tripping over your rug time and time again, do you?

This is an extra bonus for those of us that are especially sensitive to these types of bacteria and it’s nice to know that the rug pads in our home prevent bacteria even if we aren’t especially sensitive. Over time, friction can rub through the finish of your floor. As you can imagine, when you are walking on a rug with a pad underneath it will be much more comfortable.

The adhesive helps secure the rugs in place and the rug pads help to prevent rugs from slipping and causing trips and falls. And one final tip, when laying your rug pad down, make sure you read the instructions to ensure you are putting the right side down – some pads have different textures on the bottom to help it grip better to the floor. The pad that you use under your rug is very important. Rug pads come in all shapes and sizes and most can be sized with a pair of household scissors.
